Around Thanksgiving, we heard about a promotion that Toys R Us was running (buy 2 playstation games & get a $50 gift card) so we figured we'd kill 2 birds with one stone - get papa Rob his Christmas present & score $50 to use on stuff for Squishy. So we went up there, picked out the games, the cashier handed us the gift card (which I promptly put in my wallet) & we left.
About 6 weeks later (January 2nd to be exact), we head back to Babies R Us to pick up some stuff for Squishy using the gift certificates I got at my shower & the Toys R Us card we received. We're at the checkout and they're having issues with the Toys R Us card, and SURPRISE, the effer expired December 31st.
That's right, we missed it by 2 days and they wouldn't redeem it.We were told there's "nothing they can do, you have to call customer service." Which we did, and we were told we'd have a response in 7-10 business days. Yeah, 2 weeks later and we still hadn't heard from them so I called back and the conversation went a little like this:
CS: I'm sorry, there's nothing we can do for promotional cards.
Me: So, if the answer is as simple as that, why were we not told this 17 days ago when we called the first time?
CS: We have a lot of new people working here that may not have know that.
Me: Great, anyway, so if you can't reissue this card, I'd like to return the games since the only reason I purchased them from Toys R Us was because of the promotion.
CS: The games must be unopened and receipt dated within 45 days to receive a refund.
Me: Well the games are opened so I have no recourse for dealing with your company's horrible policy?
CS: I apologize, I will pass your dissatisfaction on to corporate relations.
Me: Uh, thank you? I'd like to close my registry since I will no longer be buying anything from Toys R Us or Babies R Us.
Yes, I realize it's our own fault for not realizing that the gift card had an expiration but I seriously find it hard to believe that they're really nothing they could have done. Especially since we missed the deadline by a measly 2 days. So, we have closed our registry at Babies R Us and will be purchasing everything from Buy Buy Baby in the future.
