Wallace, the guard dog?

He just looks unassuming
I guess we don't give him enough credit. Last Thursday, papa Rob ran out to pick up groceries & the doorbell rang. I've seen one too many episodes of Forensic Files & I don't answer the door for anyone (especially not while I'm home alone). Usually the solicitors or Jehovah's Witnesses get the hint & leave, but this doorbell ringer was persistent. I went downstairs & yelled through through the door that I don't answer the door for strangers (yes, I realize I sounded like a kid that's been left home alone for the first time).

The man, who I could see was old as I gave him the side-eye through the blinds, told me that's why he was there. Through the door he explained that earlier that day there was a suspicious car parked in his driveway (I should add our house is the last on a cul-de-sac & his driveway runs by the side of our house). His wife thought she saw 2 men go in our backyard, which is fenced. (Insert holy shit face here.)

He told me when he approached them, the guys jumped in the car & sped off. Of course I freaked out, started checking to make sure that papa Rob's $$$ Father's Day present was still in the backyard & the locks were still in place/windows weren't busted. Everything was fine & I figured he was just some old, paranoid neighbor that gets worried when young kids have their radios up too loud in the development.

I thought wrong. "Street Captain Jim" (yes, he refers to himself that way) came to our house Saturday to let us know that our next door neighbor's house had been broken into and robbed. Like the "drawers pulled out & thrown around & bed frame flipped up" kind of robbed.

So what does he think spared us from being robbed blind? Our I-yap-at-any-noise-near-my-house guard dog barking when they came to house door. Well I'll be damned. Now the would-be burglars certainly didn't know if they tossed him some cheese he would have gladly shown them the way to the silver (if we had any), but I'm pretty proud of my pooch...but if he eats another Ducky or keeps barking Fi awake, I'm probably going to forget this heroic deed.

  1. Aww such a good guard dog. We're the exact same with Scarlett... she stares at the front door anytime she hears a car door close three houses down the street. Little do people know that if they tossed her a peanut butter-filled Kong, she would kindly let them right in. Or if they promised her that they would take her swimming, that would work too. Glad you guys are okay and W fended off the intruders.
