I'm curious

As to what people tell themselves just before they say something offensive. Do they not think & just say whatever comes to mind, or do they think their comment is going to be so hilarious no one will take offense? Today, one of the pastors at work first asked if I was still pregnant, and upon reminding him I still had 10 weeks to go, he responded "we're going to have to ties ropes around you to keep you from floating down the hall." Yes folks, a pastor likened my appearance to a parade float.

It's a good thing I like him, and that I work at a church, because I have a feeling if this happened in public it would have ended w/my being carted away in handcuffs.
